INAUGURAL SPEECH OF SULYMAN MUHAMMED HASSAN KOSEMANI AS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION, ILORIN BRANCH DELIVERED ON 28TH JUNE, 2024.

The Honourable Chief Judge of Kwara State and Justices of the High Court here present, the Grand Khadi of Sharia Court of Appeal, Kwara State and other khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal here present, the Attorney General, Kwara State, Learned Senior Advocates of Nigeria here present, Senior members of the Bar, Past Branch Chairmen of our Branch, Chairmen, MULAN, CLASFON, FIDA, YLF, esteemed colleagues, invited Guests, Members of the third estate of the realm, ladies and gentlemen.

I stand before you today with a heart filled with gratitude and humility as I accept the honour and responsibility of serving as the chairman of our great Branch, Ilorin Bar. I want to firstly give glory to Almighty Allah for making today a reality and I will continue thanking Him for the rare opportunity. The unopposed nature of my candidature fills me with a profound sense of honour and privilege, knowing that, there are other credible and capable candidates. My sole candidacy that led to my emergence as Chairman is as a result of love, respect and understanding within the Ilorin branch.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead this esteemed branch, and I am humbled by the unanimous support and confidence you have shown in me. Your overwhelming endorsement propels me forward with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to fulfil the responsibilities of the position of Chairman to the best of my ability. I want to express my sincere appreciation to the elders and members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, for your unwavering support and belief in my capabilities. Your trust in me will motivate me to work tirelessly towards the betterment of our branch and the legal community as a whole.

As I step into this role, I am fueled by a vision of unity, progress, and excellence for our branch. My goal is to foster a collaborative environment where every member's voice is heard, valued, and respected. Myself in collaboration with other members of the Executive will strive to uphold the principles of justice, integrity, and professionalism that define the legal profession and together we shall make our branch, Ilorin Bar essential again.

I am committed to working closely with each of you to address the challenges we face through teamwork, dedication, and a shared sense of purpose, we will enhance the reputation of our branch and make a positive impact in the legal landscape of Ilorin and beyond.

I call upon all members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, to join hands with me in this journey of growth, progress, collaboration, and excellence. Let us stand together as a strong and united community, upholding the values of the legal profession and serving the interests of justice and equity. Together, we will write a new chapter of success for the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, and leave a legacy that inspires future generations of legal professionals.

I am committed to leveraging this mandate to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. My unopposed election is a testament to our unity and shared vision for a stronger, more cohesive branch that will serves the interests of justice and integrity. As we embark on this new era, I cannot help but feel a sense of excitement and responsibility. We stand on the point of a remarkable transformation, and I am committed to making the most of this opportunity to bring about positive change and progress to the ilorin bar.

During my campaign, I shared a vision and mission which I have for the harmony branch that will set a new standard not only for lawyers but for all professionals. Today, I want to reaffirm that commitment and our journey towards excellence begins now. To achieve this vision, we must unite as a formidable team, working hand in hand, embracing our diverse perspectives and experiences. Together, we will forge ahead, leveraging our collective talents and relationships to overcome challenges and seize opportunities towards making Ilorin Bar essential again.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to all those who have supported me in one way or the others in this journey, including my family, distinguished members of our dear branch and my distinguished colleagues of my constituency, the Ministry of Justice. I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to my predecessors, for their dedicated service, exemplary leadership and commitment to the advancement of the legal profession in strengthening the Ilorin bar. I must also commend the Branch Electoral Committee ably led by our erudite professor of law, Professor A. O. Abdul and members of his team for a job well done despite daunting challenges.

Let me seize this opportunity to state that this Branch belongs to all of us and the welfare of members is of paramount importance to us. As we are all aware that, the National Election of our great Association is around the corner. I want to state that our own Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara’s candidature for the post of General Secretary is a Branch project. I urge us all to drum up support for him and we pledge to do all within our powers as Executives of this Branch to deliver him come the 20th of July, 2024.

In conclusion, I am inspired by the potential and talent within our branch, and I am confident that together, we can achieve great things. Let us embark on this new chapter with enthusiasm, determination, and a collective commitment to excellence. On our part, we promise to uphold the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution, abide by our enabling By-laws and to implement programmes that will bring massive developmental impacts to the affairs of the Branch.

Thank you once again for this incredible opportunity to lead and serve. I look forward to working alongside each of you as we write the next chapter of success and achievement for the Nigeria Bar Association, Ilorin Branch.
